Former Netalogue Employee helps New Zealand win Rugby World Cup 2011
|
Alistair Rogers, 36, from Port Talbot stood alongside New Zealand skipper Richie McCaw as they lifted the trophy in celebration for winning the Rugby World Cup in a closely fought match against France.
Alistair was awarded his Winners Medal as he has been New Zealand Coach, Graham Henry’s right hand man for the last four years and most prominently for the last six weeks during the world cup in his position as Performance Analyst.
At 23 Rogers first visited New Zealand where he played for Wellington’s Western Suburbs Club, and after returning to Wales he continued to play for Ebbw Vale professionally whilst working for South Wales based Netalogue as a Customer Support Manager from 2000 to 2005 before moving to Ireland to Coach. In 2006 he moved back to New Zealand with his Kiwi girlfriend Katie where he began analysing videos of matches for the Hurricanes, before securing his role in the New Zealand camp.

Andrew Robathan, Development Director and best man at Alistair’s wedding to Katie commented on the win, "When Wales got knocked out of the World Cup the entire Netalogue team got behind Alistair and the All Blacks, we were delighted for him and, I know how passionate and committed Alistair is to his role and how much it would mean to be part of the winning team. We were very supportive of Alistair and his move to the world of rugby – his career choice certainly seems to have paid off!"
Speaking to us just after the victory celebrations in Christchurch today Alistair commented, "It has been an amazing experience being part of the world cup winning team and the turnout of the public here and in Auckland has been overwhelming, an experience of a lifetime. Having the unusual combination of playing professional rugby back in Wales whilst working at Netalogue, who are an ecommerce software development company, has certainly been key to having the right skill set for my job here with the All Blacks."
